As you can see from this tale from Dell's Thirteen Going on Eighteen #1 (1962), it was closer in style to TV sitcoms like Loves of Dobie Gillis, Leave it to Beaver, or Gidget than to Archie comics.

Love theses comic. There are 29 issues (few repeats) but I wish they would re release all of them. This hard cover book gives you the 1st nine issues.. the story lines get much better from around issue 6.
