Love is a Prison A MOON, A GIRL...ROMANCE "Prison Widow"

Now witness a tale where things, hopefully, might end differently!
Written and illustrated by Al Feldstein, this rarely-reprinted story from EC's A Moon, a Girl...Romance #12 (1950) ends with potential happiness for Florence....but was the original version meant to show her losing both men?
BTW, even though it was the cover-featured story for this issue, the cover was just so dull and boring...
...not to mention inaccurate (since Flo didn't know her incarcerated hubby was heading home after being paroled), that we went with the far more exciting splash page!

A MOON, A GIRL...ROMANCE "Summer Love"

Before EC Comics became (in)famous for doing horror and sci-fi comics...
...they covered every genre in comics, including romance!
They just didn't do all of them as well as horror and sci-fi...
Illustrated by "Ghastly" Graham Ingels, this tacky tale from EC's A Moon, A Girl...Romance #11 (1949) is, perhaps, the perfect example of why EC is not known for its' romance comics.
To be fair, that's not quite accurate...EC's post-horror comics title Confessions Illustrated was a first-rate romance b/w graphic magazine (not comic), targeted at the late-teen/young adult audience!
But it didn't sell, and, like the rest of the Picto-Fiction line is incredibly hard to find today!

Note: The Confessions Illustrated volume is unavailable separately from the Picto-Fiction set, but the whole set is well-worth it!)

A MOON, A GIRL...ROMANCE " I Was Jilted and Had No Desire to Live!"

Sometimes, you just want a three-hankie tear-jerker...
...to cleanse your soul...and here it is!
I know, I know.
This being EC Comics, you half-expected her to take the poison, become zombified, and eat Gregg when he came to the door.
And, the story from EC's A Moon, a Girl...Romance #9 (1949) is so cliched that it might have inspired writer/illustrator Al Feldstein to think about doing exactly that when, a year later, EC began doing its' now-classic horror comics titles!

A MOON, A GIRL...ROMANCE! "I Was a Flirt!"

Before EC Comics became (in)famous for doing horror comics...
...they covered every genre in comics, including romance!
They just didn't do all of them as well as horror...
Illustrated by "Ghastly" Graham Ingels, this tawdry tale from EC's A Moon, A Girl...Romance #9 (1949) is, perhaps, the perfect example of why EC is not known for its' romance comics.

A MOON, A GIRL, ROMANCE "Hearts Along the Ski Trail"

Despite the fact the cover is not by Wally Wood...
...this is, indeed, another never-reprinted tale by the legendary artist!
And it's winter-themed, on top of that!
"I see enough smart women!
I'm sick of them!"
This is the guy she wants?
Wow!
I bet this marriage doen't last more than a year...if that!
Taken from EC's A Moon, A Girl, Romance #11 (1950), this never-reprinted tale was penciled by Harry Harrison and inked by Wally Wood.
Harry worked in comics from 1947 to 1955, first as a penciler, then as a writer.
He moved on to writing sci-fi short stories and novels, creating several series including Stainless Steel Rat, DeathWorld, and Bill the Galactic Hero, winning numerous awards during his career.
Harry and Wally worked together a number of times, usually with Harrison penciling and Wood inking.
The writer is unknown, but could be Harrison or Wood.
The cover, BTW, was by the multi-talented (editor-writer-artist) Al Feldstein.
As a special project from now through Valentine's Day we're running a series of these never-reprinted tales taken directly from the original comics, alternating them with our ongoing soap opera Reach for Happiness!
