CAREER GIRL ROMANCES "No Prospects"

Here's a short from 1971 that reads more like a tale from the 1950s...
Appearing the the back of Charlton's Career Girl Romances #63 (1971), this uncredited story plays out as if Women's Lib wasn't one of the hot points of the era!
Next week:
We haven't decided yet what it'll be, but we can guarantee that...

YOUNG LOVE "His Plaything"

A couple of weeks ago, we brought you the 1950s-60s male's point of view...
...but, by the 1970s (and the rise of Women's Lib), things had not appreciably improved, at least from a guy's viewpoint...
You'll note that, despite it being the heydey of feminism, the woman is the one to offer compromise to resolve the problem!
The man would've happily kept going, one by one, through the town's female population!
The writer for this story from DC's Young Love #112 (1974) is unknown (but probably a guy),  but the art is by Nick Cardy, who began his career in the Golden Age and still does the occasional comics cover today at the age of 91!

YOUNG LOVE "Dating Game"

Though it's not based on the popular TV game show...
...this decidedly non-feminist tale from DC's Young Love #104 (1973) featured title lettering inspired by the tv show's distinctive logo!
I'm pretty sure this violates the university's code of ethics, especially before the end of the semester...

Note: this was the same period that DC's Wonder Woman was featured on the cover of the first issue of Ms. Magazine as a Woman's Lib icon!
Art by Murphy Anderson
Ironically, both Wonder Woman and DC's romance titles were edited by the same person, Dorothy Woolfolk!
Both the writer and penciler are unknown, but the inker is clearly Vince Colletta, the go-to inker for romance titles in the 1960s-70s.

YOUNG ROMANCE "It's a Girl!"

After hearing about Todd Akin, it's no wonder that the worst thing a Republican can hear is...
...and that Republican men in 2012 haven't progressed from the mind-set shown in this 58-year-old tale from Young Romance #65 (1954)!
To be fair, women as portrayed in this story aren't much better.
Lois is a doormat ("...we'll keep him happy! Isn't that what a man's womenfolk are for, after all?"), and JD seems rather butch, as if she had to be as manly as the males around her simply to be competent.
And you'll note JD's (gasp) not married!
It's scary that this seems to be the image of America that Republicans want to return to.

Sorry to vent, but after reading about sheer idiocy like Akins' comments, I feel the need to do so or GO MAD!
MAD!
MAD!

DO YOUR HEAR???
Story probably by Joe Simon and/or Jack Kirby.
Layouts by Jack Kirby.
Pencils/inks by John Prentice
