Beach Read CURSE OF THE MacINTYRES "Chapter II: Twisted Love"

When Last We Left Our Heroine...

...after her elderly father passed away with his last words being a cryptic "hide the journal" and "MacIntyre Curse", Rachel MacIntyre is offered a new home at the family's ancestral castle in Scotland by her handsome, rich, widower cousin Blair.

When she arrives in Scotland from London, Rachel is warned by local townspeople that MacIntyre Castle is dangerous and only by paying double the usual fee can she find someone willing to take her and her luggage there.
She meets Blair's extremely-bright son Jamie and another cousin, Alfie, an eccentric dwarf as well as a surly, elderly couple who serve as housekeeper and handyman.
That night, she falls into an uneasy sleep, where she dreams of Blair kissing her!
But the kiss is intense, cutting off her breathing and she jolts awake to find someone trying to smother her with a pillow...

Cousin Blair is extremely...mercurial!
Is it possible he was the one who assulted Rachel...but doesn't remember doing so?
Is that the "MacIntyre Curse"?

Beach Read CURSE OF THE MacINTYRES "Chapter I: The Secret of the Castle"

Stretch out on your beach blanket under the umbrella, get a cool drink, and dive into...

...the premiere issue of DC's second gothic romance comic, The Sinister House of Secret Love #1 (1971)

To Be Continued...Tomorrow!
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out If You Miss It!
This terrifying tale was written by Mary Skrenes and illustrated by Don Heck.

As we mentioned earlier, it was preceded the month before by another gothic romance comic, Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love.
The two books were published on alternate months, providing eight monthly doses in a row of Gothic romance.
Sadly, sales on both were poor, and the books became standard horror titles with their fifth issues, though both included Gothic romances in those #5 issues since they had already been created and paid for before the decision to change format was made!
Bonus: The original art for the first page of the story.

Lost Love FALLING IN LOVE "I Found My Love at the WoodStock Festival!"

...we had no idea there was a second, also never-reprinted tale...from DC, of all places!
(And this story came out months before the Marvel one!)
Penciled by Werner Roth, inked by Murphy Anderson, and scripted by...well, we don't know who wrote this rather saccharine story...it's nowhere near as "gritty" or realistic (if you can call any comic book tale "realistic") as the My Love piece we ran last week.
To offer a comparison...
The
My Love creatives, Gary Friedrich and Gray Morrow were 28 and 38, respectively.
The Falling in Love creatives, Werner Roth and Murphy Anderson, were 50 and 46 at the time.
So we're looking at a differing generational point of view of those events between the two tales...and it really shows!

Super-Love Redux with SUPERGIRL "Heroine Haters" Conclusion

...depressed over her Stanhope College classmates finding boyfriends using computer dating, Kara uses the Fortress of Solitude's Super-Computer to find the perfect mate for her.
While it indicates that Volar of the planet Torma is perfect for her, the Girl of Steel's cousin (you-know-who) warns her against unrealistic expectations.
Supergirl travels to Torma and discovers that women there are treated as 2nd-class citizens, and that she's considered an amusing freak!
But will love for the handsome and dynamic Volar, whose respect and admiration for her is far different from any of the other men of Torma, enable her to overcome such blatant prejudice?
BTW, note that Volar looks totally-different on the cover by penciler Curt Swan and inker Murphy Anderson!
Too bad DC never followed-up on the saga of the first transvestite super-heroine.
BTW, why couldn't Volar's genius scientist father synthesize the chemicals needed to utilize the mask?
Just askin'...
Also, since Superman programs his Super-Computer, why didn't he add the information on Volar's disguise to the database?
Or did the computer deliberately leave out that info when responding to Suprgirl's query?
Note: There was a transvestite super-hero in the 1940s...the original Cat-Man!

Written by Cary Bates, penciled by Win Mortimer and inked by Jack Abel, this cover-featured tale from DC's Adventure Comics #384 (1969) would probably have a much different ending if created today!
There are now numerous main and supporting gay and bisexual characters in comics and comics-oriented media, so the idea of two heroines (or heroes) being involved would hardly be shocking to the audience...

Next Week...
Yet More Super-Love!

Or Somebody from Neither Publisher?
