Love is a Prison YOUNG LOVE "Love Behind Bars! II" Conclusion

When Last We Left Our Innocent Protagonist...

...actually, this scene is about to happen...sort of!
Stephanie freaks out as she's about to meet her incarcerated boyfriend Vic as he is released from prison!
Returning home, she hastily packs, leaves a note for her parents, and boards a bus for New York City!
En route, she chats with her seatmate, a friendly old man who warns her of the perils of the Big City.
When Steph arrives at Manhattan's Port Authority bus terminal, she's shocked to discover the geezer had pickpocketed her, leaving her without money, credit cards, or ID!
When a pimp, seeing the distraught young woman, attempts to pick her up, he driven away by an elderly couple who claim they're from the "Travelers' Protection Agency" who bring her to their building, a hotel/halfway house for wayward girls...
Boy, when the Comics Code Authority loosened up the guidelines in 1971...they really loosened them!
A pimp, a cathouse/bordello with its' mistress (with her aide), and a hot-to-trot "john"!
Not exactly a typical day in a DC comic, eh?
So, in a somewhat-truncated ending, Vic's totally-innocent (and his conviction expunged), and Steph's released without even being booked (thus no arrest record)?
Don't ya just love a happy ending?

LOVE 1971 "Reckless Losers"

...romance comics were on their last legs.
But DC Comics' wasn't going down without a fight, starting with the torrid tale under this psychedelic Charlie Armentano cover!
Written/pencilled by Ric Estrada and inked by Tony DeZuniga, this cover-featured, never-reprinted story from DC's Super DC Giant #21 was the only new tale in the 64-page book.
The rest were reprints with hairstyles and clothing "updated" to the then-current styles!

Note: Charlie Armentano did only two comic pages that were ever published; this cover and the back cover of DC 100-Page Super-Spectacular #5 Love Stories (1971)!
The art was apparently submitted with coloring done on the original art itself, unheard-of at the time...
Armentano now runs his own graphics design/production company.

YOUNG LOVE "Love Me--Love My Father"

We ran the 1969-1970 version of this tale HERE...
...but when DC reprinted the story in 1974-1975 they changed more than the fashions and hairstyles, as the revised splash page demonstrates!
The reprinted version from DC's Young Love #113 (1974-75) changed only the female fashions and hairstyles, not the male ones!
I wonder why?

YOUNG ROMANCE "My Father, My Love!"

If that titilating title didn't grab your attention...
...then you're reading the wrong blog!
(Just keep in mind this is a Comics Code-approved story...)
Written and penciled by Ric Estrada and inked by Vince Colletta, this scintiliating story from DC's Young Romance #163 (1969/1970) was not the cover-featured tale for that issue!
(If I was the editor, it sure as hell would have been!)
When the tale was reprinted several years later, it was not only "updated" by redrawing the women's hair and clothing, but the title and opening page were rewritten as well!
