WITHIN OUR REACH "Gift of the Magi"

It's a Yuletide love story that never gets stale...

...as it continues, with each retelling, to demonstrate what the "Spirit of Christmas" really is!
Adapted (with very few changes) from the classic O Henry short story and illustrated by comic creative P Craig Rusell for the benefit comic  Star*Reach's Within Our Reach (1991), a Christmas charity benefit book with proceeds going equally to AmFAR and Sempervirens.
The book was also Star*Reach Publishing's final project under their own imprint.
Next Week:
Another Xmas-themed story!

O Henry's "Gift of the Magi" x2!

As our pre-Christmas gift to our faithful readers...
...here's both of the versions of "Gift of the Magi" we've run!
This never-reprinted adaptation of the O Henry short story from First Comics/Berkley Publishing's short-lived revival of Classics Illustrated was written and illustrated by Gary Gianni in his comic book debut!
Trivia: Gianni scripted and rendered the entire six-story issue, #15 (1990), himself!
Gary's detailed, decidedly-retro style has since made him a fan favorite, especially for his work on Indiana Jones, The Shadow, Doc Savage and Hellboy!
And now...our most popular Christmas-themed post ever...
...and it shows how True Love and Christmas shopping can go hand-in-hand!
This straightforward adaptation of O Henry's Christmas classic appeared in Pendulum Press' Best of O Henry (1977) digest-sized comic.
Written by John Fago (whose father, longtime comic artist/editor Vince Fago packaged the series) and illustrated by Anton Caravana, it was part of a series of Classics Illustrated-type publications released, like the Scholastic Book Club, directly to students and school libraries.

Next Week, on Christmas Day:
The comic adaptation you didn't know existed of...
Louisa May Alcott's
Little Women!
You'll cry your eyes out if you miss it!

Halloween HeartBreak TOMB OF TERROR "Rift of the Maggis" / HORROR TALES "Gift of Horror"

We've presented the classic O Henry story a couple of times...
...but this version from Harvey's Tomb of Terror #11 (1953) ain't the heartwarming Christmastime tale!
Written and illustrated by the highly-underrated Howard Nostrand,  it has a kool EC Comics vibe thanks to artist Howard's stylistic similarity to Jack Davis!
Due to the restrictions of the Comics Code, the story couldn't be reprinted without partially-rewriting and totally-redrawing it!
So, Eerie Publications  handed it to artist Oscar Fraga with the script reused...verbatim in Horror Tales V7N1 (1975)!
Note: b/w magazines weren't covered by the Comics Code, so Oscar could have gone even gorier...
Happy Halloween!

"Gift of the Magi" by O Henry

Our post of an adaptation of O Henry's famous Xmas tale is our most popular Christmas post...
...and we have no doubt this will match or exceed it!

O Henry's "Gift of the Magi"

With the last weekend before Christmas approaching...
...let's look at how True Love and Christmas shopping can go hand-in-hand!
This straightforward adaptation of O Henry's Christmas classic appeared in Pendulm Press' Best of O Henry (1977) digest-sized comic.
Written by John Fago (whose father, longtime comic artist/editor Vince Fago packaged the series) and illustrated by Anton Caravana, it was part of a series of Classics Illustrated-type publications released like the Scholastic Book Club, directly to students and school libraries.

BTW, this is our 100th entry.
We're taking a week off and will be back after New Year's Day.
Merry Christmas
