Just when you thought they couldn't do anything else with a disease-themed romance tale...
...this never-reprinted story from ACG's LoveLorn #3 (1949-50) comes along with a tale jam-packed with unexpected soap opera-style plot-twists!
Wow!
I'm exhausted!
So, jaded, manipulative girl loses handsome doctor to woman whose inherent innocence and purity of heart (and extreme work ethic) lures the MD to her...and she didn't even intend to do so!

Love in the Time of Covid-19 CONFESSIONS OF THE LOVELORN "Man in My Past!"

Warning: the story under this Ken Bald-illustrated cover is about an incurable disease...
...but it's not the incurable disease you'll think it is after the first few pages!
So he's not cured, but in remission, though the doctor says the operation was a "complete success"!
Written by editor Richard E Hughes and illustrated by Howard Alexander, this never-reprinted tale from ACG's Confessions of the LoveLorn #57 (1955) tries to make Alan honorable, even noble!
But instead of being honest with his wife, he all but abandoned her and then returned years later expecting her to take him back!

Love in the Time of Covid-19 CONFESSIONS OF THE LOVELORN "Someone of My Own!"

Here's a never-reprinted tale from ACG's Confessions of the Lovelorn #95 (1958)...
...that redefines "lovesick"!
Writer Richard Hughes and illustrator Sam Citron add a new twist to the old "steal the doctor from the rich girl whose father is financing his research" plot so common in romance comics!

LOVELORN "Come Back My Love!" in TrueVision!

You won't need red/blue 3-D glasses to read the 3-D comic story...
...behind this Ogden Whitney cover, because it's not red/blue 3-D, but an idea to simulate 3-D called...
While other companies were doing actual 3-D, ACG decided to save a few bucks and also tout the fact their "3-D" was still FULL color!
And now, on with the story...

It's a clever concept, but I can see how it would become irritating on an ongoing basis.
The big problem is that the cheap "newsprint" paper was never meant to have so much solid black ink on the pages, resulting in blotchy backgrounds!
Art on this never-reprinted story from ACG's Lovelorn #51 (1954) was by Edmond Good, who worked in various genres for DC, Fox, Nedor/Standard, Fawcett, and ACG, among others.
He left comics to become the Art Director for Tupperware from the mid-1950s until his retirement in the mid-1970s!

MY ROMANTIC ADVENTURES "Spring Meeting"

Since it's now Spring, 2018, let's look at a tale from Spring, 1958...
...and see a story that some would say could happen today, 60 year later!
"I figured right off that any check I gave you would be just a way of keeping the money in the family!"?
Now that's a lawyer!
This never-reprinted short illustrated by Al Williamson and Angelo Torres (who penciled and inked different sections as they passed the pages back and forth) appeared in ACG's My Romantic Adventures #86 (1958).
Odds are the script was by editor Richard E Hughes who wrote almost everything at ACG!

Valentines Day Special MY ROMANTIC ADVENTURES "Comic Valentine!" Conclusion

...struggling artist Peg Manton couldn't find a profitable venue for her talent.
Broke and starving, she encountered George Jessup, an average guy who recognized her artistic ability, and suggested she try her hand at doing a comic strip!
With his guidance, she created "The Loves of Lorna Lee", basing Lorna on herself!
The innovative strip was snapped up in record time by a newspaper syndicate!
While Peg revelled in her new-found professional success, George professed his love for her.
But Peg didn't feel the same way, and George accepted his fate as a close friend, continuing to offer suggestions about the strip...which had started losing readers due to a lack of a compelling male co-star to match the female lead.
With George's help, Peg created an extremely-manly character..Greg Gallant...who proved so popular that he stole the stip's title as well as his creator's heart as she began having erotic fantasies about her own creation!
A major studio bought the rights to the strip and came up with the idea to cast an unknown actor to play the part...with Peg making the final decision!
Wow!
All that in a 13-page story!
These days, it'd be a full-length Graphic Novel!
Writer/editor Richard E Hughes and illustrator Ogden Whitney presented an extremely idealized version of what goes into creating and marketing syndicated comic strips, as well as offering a beautiful and talented woman who looked past the physical to choose a guy who, though less handsome than his rival for her affections, possessed intellectual and emotional attributes she wanted in a "significant other"!
A most appropriate tale for Valentine's Day, eh?
