Halloween HeartBreak THIS MAGAZINE IS HAUNTED! "Bridegroom, Come Back!"

" 'Til Death Do Us Part..." Takes on a Whole New Meaning...
...during the Halloween season, when the barriers between this life and the next one blur!
Steve (SpiderMan/Doctor Strange) Ditko did very few romance-themed stories during his half-century in comics.
So whenever one pops up, we take note of it, such as this tale from Charlton's This Magazine is Haunted #18 (1954).
As for who wrote it, the author is likely Charlton's go-to scripter Joe Gill, but we can't confirm it.

TEEN-AGE LOVE "A Very Merry Christmas"

We promised you a Christmas romance story...

...and, hoo boy, did we deliver!
It's a Hallmark Channel Yuletide TV-movie in comic-book form!
It's also one of the rare Charlton covers that isn't just re-used art from the story inside, but new art by Dick Giordano!
Enjoy...
Talk about your two-for-one deals!
A Christmas story and a New Years Eve tale in one!
Though this never-reprinted story from Charlton's Teen-Age Love #44 (1965) is attributed to penciler Bill Montes and inker Jon D'Agostino, it looks like several other pencilers and inkers redrew individual panels, including Steve Ditko and Sal Trapani!
We're taking next week off, but we'll be back in January with much more graphic love!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
and a
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Countdown to Halloween 2020 HAUNTED LOVE "Until We Meet Again"

Though he did few romance stories in his over half a century in comics...

...Steve (Doctor Strange) Ditko had quite a bit of experience with mystical mood!
Is this man a corpse possessed by the spirit/soul of Gerald, or some sort of regeneration of Gerald's deceased form?
I don't think Sheila cares, and this never-reprinted Joe Gill-scripted, Steve Ditko-illustrated tale from Charlton's Haunted Love #5 (1973) never makes it clear...
BTW, the inking on this story looks more like Joe Staton than Ditko himself!
Is it?
We may never know...

DARING LOVE "Paper Romance"

This week we're presenting a tale from Daring Love (1953), a one-shot comic featuring a one-time combination of two of the most famous artists in comic book history!
The artists are:
1) Matt Baker, whom we've shown here several times, doing layouts.
2) And, in his very first published story, Steve Ditko, who would later co-create Spider-Man and Dr. Strange, on finished pencils and inks.

Next week:
We haven't decided yet what it'll be, but we can guarantee that...

I LOVE YOU "Night Without Tears"

What happens when you fall in love with your cousin?
This never-reprinted tale from Charlton's I Love You #91 (1971) has one possible solution!
"...related by marriage!"
Writer Joe Gill and illustrator Steve Ditko certainly found a way out of that conundrum, eh?
Note: though Ditko has drawn thousands of stories and covers during his over half-century of comics creating, romance comics account for only a dozen or so stories!

HAUNTED LOVE "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead!"

Even witches in Salem deserve to find love, whether here or in the afterlife!
Henrietta learned that love is more than just a pretty face that can conceal a shallow, loathsome soul, and sometimes a real "bad boy" turns out to be your true love!
Written by George Wildman and illustrated by Spider-Man and Dr Strange co-creator Steve Ditko,  this never-reprinted tale appeared in Charlton's Haunted Love #4 (1973), the longest-running gothic romance comic ever!
Next week...
Our Annual Halloween presentation of spooky,  sci-fi, and Gothic romance tales continues with a two-parter that takes 'Til Death Do Us Part to extremes!
