Amorous Education JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "What a Specimen"

To help ease your sad return to school before Labor Day (those of you with an extended school year)...
MORE fun with Dan DeCarlo's Jetta!
The 21st Century isn't what they thought it would be in 1953...
"Leaping Electrodes!"
"Now we're cookin' with uranium!"
"Go atomize yourself!"
"This is simply electronic!"
Why aren't we all talking like this?
This tale from Jetta #6 (which was actually the second issue) was written and penciled by Dan DeCarlo, but it may not have been inked by him.
Next Week...
We're Not Yet Certain What We'll Present!
But We Can Guarantee that...

Amorous Education JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "Act Your Age!"

The more things change, the more they stay the same...
...as this tale of 21st Century teen-agers from 1953 proves!
I'm positive writer/penciler Dan DeCarlo re-used this concept for an Archie story using Dilton Dooley as the creator of the aging/de-aging device!
know I've seen a story with younger versions of Principal Weatherbee and Miss Grundy almost becoming a couple, before reverting to their present-day older selves.
Anybody know what my failing memory vaguely recalls?
It's a shame this was from the final issue of Standard's Jetta of the 21st Century (#7 in 1953).
(Despite that issue number, there were only three issues, #s 5 to 7!)
Guess the concept was too "far out" for early 1950s readers!

BTW, we'd like to extend our thanks to the amazing Kracalactaka, heroic and voluminous contributor to both the Digital Comic Museum and ComicBookPlus, for these Jetta scans!
It's people like him who assure that comic book art will be appreciated for generations to come!
Next week:
We haven't decided yet what it'll be, but we can guarantee that...

Amorous Education JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "Jet Jaunt"

It's almost springtime...and more importantly, it's almost PROM time!
But, in teen humor comic books (even comics set in the future), things never go smoothly!
OK, maybe it's just as well that we of the real 21st Century still don't have flying cars...
As you might have guessed, Archie artist Dan DeCarlo was the illustrator for this tale from Standard Comics' Jetta of the 21st Century #5 (1952), which was actually her first issue!
(Issues 1-4 were a romance comic called Today's Romance!)

JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY: Zoomer "Time Out for Trouble"

Like Archie's crowd, Jetta's supporting cast got occasional solo stories...
...like Zoomer and Atomica, a pair of "typical" teen-agers who would've fit in nicely in Riverdale, though 20th Century tech will give them problems, as you'll see...
This 60-year old tale of time and two teens from Standard's Jetta of the 21st Century #6 (1953) was written and penciled by the legendary Dan DeCarlo, and inked by Fred Eng.

Next week:

JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "Man Trouble"

To help ease your return to school or work...MORE fun with Dan DeCarlo's Jetta!
...in this case, her very first apperance from Jetta of the 21st Century #5 (1952), which was actually the first issue.
(Issues 1-4 were a romance comic called Today's Romance!)
Written and penciled by the legendary Dan DeCarlo, but may not have been inked by him.

JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "My Cosmic Hero"

A romantic summer evening at the drive-in...
...except it's in the 21st Century...as seen from the viewpoint of 1952!
(I'm still waiting for my flying car!)
If the art style looks familiar, it's the work of Dan DeCarlo, who helped establish the iconic "look" of Archie Comics!
Dan actually started at Atlas Comics (the 1940s-50s predecessor to Marvel Comics) doing a variety of humor strips before beginning a long-term run on various Archie titles in 1951.
Even then, he continued to work for a number of other publishers, including Standard Comics, who asked him to create, write, and illustrate a teen-humor series.
(Every publisher had at least one of them!)
Exactly whose idea it was to set it in the "far future" of the 21st Century is unknown, but the resultant strip, though extremely derivative of Archie, was unique in the teen-humor genre for it's Jetsons-style setting and "futuristic" slang.

BTW, we're presenting more teen-humor because our post on Tippy Teen was one of the most popular items we've ever run!
(And we have lots of teen-humor material on hand!  Archie Comics isn't the only stuff out there!)

Is there a particular genre (Western, gothic, action, humor, etc.) or time period (1950s, 1960s, 1970s) you'd like to see stories from?
We've posted material from a wide variety of subjects over the past few months.
We'd love to have you post comments so we have a better handle on what types of strips you'd like to see here.
