Love in the Time of Covid-19 DIARY LOVES and WEDDING BELLS "Summer Serenade"

Can being stuck in quarantine with someone lead to True Love?

According to this story from Quality's Diary Loves #27 (1952), the answer is yes!
So the "quarantine" was a fake, since no mention of it is made to John when he pulls up in the limo!
(Admittedly, the timeline after Jan is told about measles is nebulous.
Was she there a day...a week...or longer, before John shows up?)
This story initially appeared in Quality's Diary Loves #27 (1962) and seems pretty innocuous.
However, when the story was reprinted in Quality's Wedding Bells #13 (1956), the newly-implemented Comics Code Authority insisted on some weird changes:
Jan's already-tasteful clothing now covers more of her!
Both Brent and John have been de-aged from early/mid 30s to early 20s!
The hand-scripted "diary entries" have been changed to standard comic book lettering..and the final "diary entry" has been re-written!
Either way, it's a happy ending!

Love in the Time of Covid-19 SWEETHEARTS "My Last Chance for Love"

...now here's the earlier, longer (and sassier) version, beginning with the second page!
Now we return to the story we re-presented last week...
Why were five pages from this tale from Fawcett's SweetHearts #83(1950) cut from the reprint we showed you last week?
Did the Comics Code Authority (which didn't exist when this story was first published) insist on the alterations?
And, if so...why?
We'll never know the answers!

Love in the Time of Covid-19 MY SECRET LIFE "My Last Chance for Love"

Think only we humans suffer during pandemics and epidemics?
Here's a tale involving doctors and patients you've never seen before on this blog!
Is this what passed for "true love" back in the 1950s?
This story from Charlton's My Secret Life #19 (1957) seems to think so!
But there's a kicker to this!

TRUE LOVE PROBLEMS AND ADVICE ILLUSTRATED "Love Flirt" After and Before

When this story appeared in Harvey's True Love Problems and Advice Illustrated #36 (1955)...
...the newly-formed Comics Code forced some alterations to the reprinted tale!

Now, here's the original version, from True Love Problems and Advice Illustrated #16 (1952)...
Wow!
There's a lot more of Kit in that splash panel!
And there's a "naughty" caption in the second panel that the reprint leaves out!
The last word balloon "Hold me close, Bill -- very close!" was removed from the reprint!
In the reprint, part of the second panel's caption is deleted, Kit's swimsuit is blackened out, and her bust is reduced...and it wasn't a very revealing swimsuit to begin with!
The only change here is the removal of Kit's cleavage in panels 1, 3, and 5 and a change in her eyes in panel 4!
Interesting what the Comics Code Authority thought was "naughty" enough to warrant removal/modification, especially her eyes in panel 4 of the final page...

TIME FOR LOVE "It's Like Wild, Wild, Wild!"

Here's a cover that presents both the beginning and the ending of the story!
How does that work?
Read for yourself!
See?
The cover is a composite of the first and last panels of the never-reprinted story from Charlton's Time for Love #13 (1969)!
I love the cover copy "Time for Swinging...Time for Dreaming!"
Think the "old fogies" at the Comics Code Authority realized the phrase they were approving?
But there's no mistaking the message of the story itself...counter-culture BAD!
It's obvious Vince Colletta is the inker of both the story and cover, but the writer and penciler are unknown.
