Advice d'Amour MARY WORTH "Doctor Ward's Secret" The LOST Sunday Strips

September was Mary Worth  Month as We Presented...

...a comic reprinting a 1944 plotline from the newspaper strip which combined both daily and Sunday strips, but left out quite a bit of material due to redundancy!
We've since found the Sundays from that period, though, sadly, they're in b/w!
(Ironically, the dailies, which are published in b/w, were colored for the comic book!)
We now present them, along with links to the posts which feature the comic book pages they were adapted into!

We hope you've enjoyed our little "archeological dig" into the history of a still-popular soap opera strip!

Halloween HeartBreak FORBIDDEN WORLDS "Timeless Tribe!" Conclusion

Art by Kurt Shaffenberger
Rod Merritt travelled to South America to investigate claims of an ancient civilization of immortals!
He discovers people who can metamorph into various forms including statuary, but seem to have a particular talent for transforming into animals including lions, jaguars, and rhinos!
While the rest of the expedition is slaughtered, Rod is kept alive at the behest of Leona, one of the leaders of the hidden people, who is attracted to him...
So, what did you expect?
A happy ending?
Not what writer/editor Richard Hughes and artist Ken Landau had in mind for this story from ACG's Forbidden Worlds #145 (1967).
Note: Despite his being "repulsed" at seeing Leona's true form, Rod accepts death as long as it's at her side.
BTW, here's the original art for that page...
Was Leona originally-conceived as being even more alien-appearing?
Did the Comics Code Authority make them tone it down?
We'll never know...

Halloween HeartBreak FORBIDDEN WORLDS "Timeless Tribe!" Part 1

The SubText of This Year's Halloween HeartBreak  has been "Not  What They Seem"!
And nowhere is that more accurate than in this two-part Halloween blogathon finale!
Impossible?
A human and were-cat in love is impossible?
Haven't we seen humans and vampires, humans and werewolves, humans and ghosts, even humans and ghouls/zombies all happily "getting busy"?
What could possibly prevent this kool coupling?
Or is there something else we haven't yet learned?
You'll know the startling truth only if you're here...tomorrow!
And Yes, You'll Cry Your Eyes Out If You Miss It!

Halloween HeartBreak SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE "Witch of Metropolis"

This Scene Does Not  Occur in the Story Below...
...Sort Of!
Confused?
Well, you won't be after you witness the following astounding events...
Written by Otto Binder and illustrated by Kurt Schaffenberger (with some redrawing of Lois' face by either Ruben Moreira or Al Plastino), this story was popular enough to be reprinted in two of the legendary 80-Page Giants over the next decade, with its' second appearance in DC's Lois Lane #77-G39 (1967) putting it front-and-center of her weirdest tales!
Maybe we'll run "Ghost of Lois Lane!" next Halloween season!
