COWGIRL ROMANCES "Ranch of Riddles"

Nothing says I Love You like gunpowder, horse blankets, and guys who don't bathe for days, right?
Someone thought so back in the 1950s, when two of the most popular genres--romances and Westerns were combined into Western romances (or Romantic Westerns) in both comics and prose fiction.
At one point, there were almost a dozen titles in this genre before they all faded out by 1961.
Since then, the occasional "romance at a dude ranch" or somesuch has popped up, but they're usually set in the present, not in the Old West.
Next week...another genre combines with true love as we present a gothic romance tale!
You'll cry your eyes out if you miss it!

ADVENTURES IN ROMANCE "September Squall"

We're coming to Memorial Day weekend...
...and the summer vacation season, so here's a tale that really fits the concept of a "beach read'!
You'll note a couple of two-page spreads at the beginning of the story.
This particular comic series (Adventures in Romance) experimented with doing double-page spreads to establish a distinctive "look".
Sadly, it only lasted two issues.  ;-(

Next week...Our first tale of love featuring cowboys and cowgirls (one of the more popular sub-genres of romance fiction in the 1950s)...
You'll cry your eyes out if you miss it!

MOD LOVE "She's the Hippest Girl in the World!"

Here's a psychedelic piece from the Swinging '60s, when Free Love was all the rage, baby!
Written by Michael Lutin, the story (and the entire issue) is illustrated by noted French pop artist Michel Quarez.

We go to the Fabulous '40s for a "Stormy Tale of Dangerous Love"...
You'll cry your eyes out if you miss it!

DIARY SECRETS "Breaking All the Rules"

Last week, we visited the socially-relevant '70s...
We now travel even further back, to the frantic '50s, for this tale of a small-town girl with big city desires...
Don't you just love a happy ending?
The art is by legendary glamour / good girl artist Matt Baker who did a lot of romance and super-heroine work.
BTW, the original title was "Rx for a Broken Heart", but I think this one works better.
I used the reprint because the original version wasn't the cover feature in the issue it was printed in.
My policy is to show stories that were cover-featured so I have a preview image for the "next week" blurb (and the title was the only thing that was altered).
Speaking of which...

Next week, we bounce forward a decade to the psychedelic '60s with the titillating tale "She's the Hippest Girl in the World"...
You'll cry your eyes out if you miss it!
