TEEN LOVE STORIES "Just Her Luck" Part 1

Since Teen Love Stories tales are among our most popular posts...
...we bow to popular demand with another 1960s romance story originally-published in England, so note the differences in language and slang!
Next week:
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out if You Miss It!
(Oh, you've heard that, eh?)
This tale appeared in the second issue of the short-lived 1960s magazine Teen Love Stories (not a comic book, as explained HERE) and was a reprint of a British romance strip.
Of all the ongoing Warren Publishing b/w comic magazines (including Creepy, Vampirella, and 1984), Teen Love Stories was the shortest-lived at only three issues, all of which are very hard-to-find!

MODERN LOVE "They Wouldn't Let Me Love Him!"

The "star-crossed lovers from different ethnic groups" trope is not new as a tale from 1971 shows!
But, Hispanic girl-Anglo boy relationships seem to have a particular interest for comics writers and artists...even back to the 1950s!
Both this never-reprinted tale from EC Comics' Modern Love #7 (1950) and the 1970s story show the woman leaving the man to avoid prejudice against her from affecting his career!
In the 1950s, it was disturbing, but in the pre-civil rights era, it was the status quo.
In the 1970s, it was disturbing, but far less common.
In the 2010s, the resurgence of this sort of prejudice is frightening, setting America back over 60 years!

BOY MEETS GIRL "Kind of Man I'd Like to Marry" & "Will You Be a Bride...or an Old Maid?"

You thought Cosmopolitan had a monopoly on these kind of quizzes?
Art by Curt Swan and ?
They were a popular feature of romance comics as well, as these pages from Lev Gleason's Boy Meets Girl #2 (1950) and #20 (1952) show!
And to help you avoid ending up an "old maid", the editors thoughtfully provided...

DARING LOVE "Paper Romance"

This week we're presenting a tale from Daring Love (1953), a one-shot comic featuring a one-time combination of two of the most famous artists in comic book history!
The artists are:
1) Matt Baker, whom we've shown here several times, doing layouts.
2) And, in his very first published story, Steve Ditko, who would later co-create Spider-Man and Dr. Strange, on finished pencils and inks.
