Amorous Education JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "Jet Jaunt"

It's almost springtime...and more importantly, it's almost PROM time!
But, in teen humor comic books (even comics set in the future), things never go smoothly!
OK, maybe it's just as well that we of the real 21st Century still don't have flying cars...
As you might have guessed, Archie artist Dan DeCarlo was the illustrator for this tale from Standard Comics' Jetta of the 21st Century #5 (1952), which was actually her first issue!
(Issues 1-4 were a romance comic called Today's Romance!)
Next week:
We haven't decided yet what it'll be, but we can guarantee that...

COOKIE "Do Your Christmas Shopping Early"

How do you make some extra cash for Christmas?
If you're a teenager named "Cookie", it's usually the hard way...
I've found almost NO Christmas-specific romance comic stories!
Heck, I had to go through a stack of British comics to find last-year's tale (click HERE)
So I went with this teen humor strip from Cookie #10 (1947), written and illustrated by Dan Gordon, who was a writer-animator-director for the Fleischer Studios (Superman, Popeye), then went into comics, finally returning to animation at Hanna-Barbera where he co-created (among others) The Flintstones!
Note: Archie Comics has a huge number of Christmas-themed stories featuring Archie and Betty & Veronica!
I'm looking to find a couple of the earliest ones that would still be Public Domain to use here!
Wish me luck!

VICKI "Kiss and Tell" 2.0

The original version of this "meta" tale of a comic book character reading a comic book appeared HERE...

...now here's the same story, with "updated" clothing and hairstyles and a different lead character., but the same supporting cast!

When Seaboard Publishing/Atlas Comics reprinted this tale in Vicki #2 (1975), they did the usual modifications to keep the tale looking "current" that everybody else did with their older teen humor and romance material.
I don't know if Atlas/Seaboard tried to get the rights to Tower's T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, at that point only five years after their last appearance and still-fondly remembered by comics fans!
But, they ended up with Tippy Teen...who was renamed Vicki!
My personal opinion is that Seaboard's Martin Goodman discovered that Tower had abandoned the negatives/photostats at the printer (whom they didn't pay).
Like Israel Waldman who took similar abandoned material for his Super/IW Comics line, Goodman took the material (which also had never been copyrighted, so it was Public Domain as soon as it was published) and reprinted it, changing only the title to avoid a nuisance lawsuit from Tower (which was still publishing paperbacks) and claim a new copyright on the modified reprinted material.

JOE COLLEGE "Rosie Romance Seeks Her Knight in Shining Armor!"

Before it became the province of little kids (6-13) in the 1960s...
..."teen humor" was also popular not only with with older kids (13-18), but both genders!
In fact, there were male-oriented teen humor titles, like Hillman's Joe College, from which this never-reprinted story was taken.
Note: the male characters in the book, including the title character, Housedate Harry, and Boola Boola Jones, fare no better.
They're all portrayed as obsessed idiots, who, if they achieve anything, it's through blind luck!
Sadly, the creator(s) of this strip are unknown.

COOKIE "Turkey Meets Jerky"

I couldn't find a single romance comic with a Thanksgiving theme...
...but, thankfully (pun intended), teen humor comics have a number of them!
Note, there is a romantic sub-plot involving Cookie's girlfriend AngelPuss!
Curiously, this tale, written and illustrated by Dan Gordon, is from the same issue our previous Cookie holiday tale appeared in, ACG's Cookie #10 (1947)!
Dan Gordon was a writer-animator-director for the Fleischer Studios (Superman, Popeye), then went into comics, finally returning to animation at Hanna-Barbera where he co-created (among others) The Flintstones!

DEBBI'S DATES "Buddy in 'Ah--Sweet Valentine's Day!' "

Until the 1970s, there were numerous competitors with Archie Comics for the teen humor comics market...
...and here's a Valentine's Day story from one of the last titles to appear!
Written by Steve Skeates, and illustrated by Henry Scarpelli with assists by Win Mortimer and Bob Oksner, this never-reprinted tale from DC's Debbi's Dates #1 (1969) is, oddly one of the few romantic (albeit humorous) comics tales I could find with "Valentine" in the title!
Most of them involve the famous St Valentine's Day Massacre!
Both Debbi's Dates and the "sister" title Date with Debbi disappeared from the newsstands by late 1972, along with almost all DC's romance titles!
