NEW ROMANCES "Thrill Hunter"

What do you do when the memory of a deceased spouse hangs over the marriage?
Discover the surprising answer in this titillating tale from Standard Comics' New Romances #21 (1954).
Illustrated by Art Saaf, one of many little-known artists who did an incredible volume of work, mostly in the romance genre.
While he did a few assignments here and there in horror, war, jungle girl, and even superhero titles, the vast majority of his almost 500 credited tales during his career from 1950 to 1980 were love stories.
(Since he rarely signed his work, odds are a number of stories attributed to others are actually his art.)

COWGIRL ROMANCES "Send Back My Love"

Return to the Old West, where men were real men, women were real women...
...and, in those days before e-mail (or even a telephone), a letter to one's true love could take days...or weeks!
This was the final tale in CowGirl Romances #12 (1954), which was, sadly, the final issue of the series.

HAUNTED LOVE "A New Life"

The 1970s; when you could rent a huge loft in Greenwich Village for pennies...
...and end up with a male chauvinist ghost boyfriend!
WTF???
Illustrated by the talented Enrique Nieto (who did only romance, horror, or gothic romance tales), this story from Haunted Love #10 (1975) is easily one of the weirdest pieces I've ever read!

GIRLS IN LOVE "The One Boy I Wanted"

In keeping with the "prom" theme from last week...
...let's see how typical 1950s teens handled going to the prom!
The number of cliches in this tale defy belief!
Everything from "if you take your glasses off, you'll be beautiful" to "will you marry me?"...on the first date!

While the writer and artist of this story from Girls in Love #47 (1955) are unknown, I'd like to ask one question...
Why does everyone who's supposed to be a student look at least a decade too old?
It's like watching 90210!
