Romance on the Range I MET A HANDSOME COWBOY Part 2

I'm Going to Let the Comic Itself Explain What's Going On...

...wow, that was convenient!
One minor point it left out was that Slade was ambushed!

It's interesting to note the women are the ones deducing and assessing what's going on, seeing through the men's schemes!
These ain't no helpless bimbos!
To Be Continued Tomorrow!
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out if You Miss It!

Romance on the Range I MET A HANDSOME COWBOY Part 1

We wind up this month with a book-length romance...

...that was originally-intended for an actual paperback book instead of a comic!

Doesn't look good for Slade, does it?
To Be Continued, Tomorrow!
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out if You Miss It!
Published as Dell's Four Color Comics #324 (1951), the book-length tale was meant to be the third in Dell's experimental graphic novel Told in Pictures paperback series.
Two previous books, Twice Loved, and Four Frightened Women were published in 1950, and I Met... was advertised as the next one.
But, apparently due to poor sales, it was reformatted to comic book format instead!
The story was an adaptation of a serial from a 1943 Dell pulp magazine, Ranch Romances, called "Clouds Over the
Chupaderos" by prolific writer Elsa Barker.
It has a more "adult", almost B-movie feel to it.
Though the serial ran four issues, it was never cover-featured, or even mentioned on the cover!
Both the writer and artist(s) of the adaptation are unknown.

Romance on the Range ROMANCE TRAIL "Untamed"

Can a Fine Filly Tame a Studly Stallion...

...or will a studly stallion tame a fine filly?
Enquiring minds want to know!

Though we don't know who scripted this never-reprinted story from DC's Romance Trail #1 (1949), we do know it was illustrated by Everett Raymond Kinstler, who later became a noted portrait painter,,,particularly of official Presidential portraits, as seen HERE!
Unlike many other comic book illustrators turned "fine artists", Kinstler has never been shy about his comic book work, which included every genre during a decade in the business!

Next week:
We wind up with a special multi-part, book-length Western Romance!
And we guarantee that...
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out if You Miss It!

Romance on the Range GOLDEN WEST LOVE "A Woman Scorned"

A Sub-Sub-Genre Within the Sub-Genre of Western Romances...

...was the "Contemporary Western Romance", which took place in the present day,

Like stories we presented HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE, this never-reprinted tale from Kirby Publishing's Golden West Love #2 (1949) took a character from a contemporary urban setting and placed him/her into a rural Western-style environment.
Illustrated by Bruno Premani, the writer is unknown.
Kirby Publishing (no relation to Joe Simon & Jack Kirby) is unique in that it only published six titles during it's two-year existence, half of which were romance books: Enchanting Love, Golden Love, and Golden West Love!

Next week:
We haven't decided yet which Western Romance Story it'll be, but we can guarantee that...
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out if You Miss It!

Romance on the Range REAL WEST ROMANCES "To Fight for Her Man!"

In the Old West, Men Were Real Men, Women Were Real Women...

and everybody had real guns...and knew how to use them!

Edited by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby (the team who invented the romance comics genre), Real West Romances was one of two cross-genre titles Prize Comics published between 1949-1950, with the other being Western Love, also edited by Simon & Kirby!
This particular never-reprinted tale from V1N2 (1949) was illustrated by Leonard Starr, and likely written by Simon and/or Kirby.
It's also probable Kirby did rough layouts for the story.
