LOVE STORIES "I Loved a Drop-Out"

It's almost the end of the school year...
...so we wanted to get this tale on the board before summer vacation!
So, the kid quits school, then blackmails his doctor father to bankroll his eduction (which Dad was going to do all along) as well as take on free patients despite Dad already having a crushing workload?
And note the kid doesn't even offer to help out in Dad's office?
This never-reprinted tale penciled by Ric Estrada and inked by Tony DeZuniga from DC's Love Stories #147 (1972) has some weird priorities!
I'd criticize the writer...but we have no idea who it is!

MY CONFESSION "I Was Unwanted"

Here's a never-reprinted tale of torment and triumph from comics legend Wally Wood...
...which began on the inside front cover of the comic (which is why it's only a two-color page instead of the usual four-color page)!
Wally did quite a few of these romance potboilers before finding his niche doing sci-fi/fantasy and horror at EC Comics.
He rarely returned to the romance genre after that,
Though the comic is Fox's My Confession #8 (1949), it's actually the second (and last) issue under that title!
Before #7, it was Western True Crime!
from #9 to #10 it was My Confessions!
(I have no idea why they made it plural)
From #11 to #12 (then #3) it became the anthology Spectacular Features Magazine, then finally died!

IDEAL LOVE AND ROMANCE "Forbidden Love"

Sometimes the opening caption says it all...
...as this never-reprinted tale from Timely's Ideal Love and Romances #5 (1949) demonstrates.
Both the writer and penciler are unknown, though the inker appears to be Christopher Rule.
BTW, though this issue was #5, it was actually the one and only issue of Timely's Ideal Love and Romance!
Before that, it was Ideal: a Classical Comic
With #6 it became simply Love Romances, and survived for one hundred issues as Timely became Atlas, until #106 (1963) around the time Atlas became Marvel!

ADVENTURES IN ROMANCE "Black Lily"

Let's journey back to the 1700s, when men were dashing, women were demure...
...and court intrigue was commonplace!
This page was the inside back cover of the comic, so it's b/w rather than color.
This torrid tale from St John's Adventures in Romance #1 (1949) was illustrated by Leonard Starr, who did over 400 comic stories in the late 1940s-mid 1950s, went on to create the long-running (1957-79) newspaper soap-opera strip Mary Perkins on Stage and then took over the writing and illustrating chores on Annie (adapting his realistic style to match original artist Harold Gray's looser, "cartoonier" style) finally ending up as the primary designer and story editor on the original ThunderCats animated tv series!

WOMEN IN LOVE "I Was a Greenwich Village Character"

...and the unknown writer of this tale seems very familiar with the workings of both the commercial art and fine art communities that mingled in The Village!
This never-reprinted tale from Ziff-Davis' 100-page one-shot Women in Love (1952) is incredibly-overwritten, as if it was a prose story that just happened to be illustrated!
Artist Gerald McCann had the unenviable task of trying to actually illustrate panels that are overflowing with captions and text!
