REACH FOR HAPPINESS Episode 3

We return to the longest-running soap-opera in comics with another never-reprinted chapter of the serial...
Well, isn't somebody just too, too sophisticated for simple sentimentality?
But Lila and Roger have bigger problems than cliches on cake...as we shall see...
Next Week...
More secrets revealed!
 We can guarantee that...
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out if You Miss It!
(Oh, you've heard that, eh?)
BTW: This chapter of "Reach for Happiness" from Secret Hearts #112 (1966) was written by Jack Miller, penciled (and probably inked) by Gene Colan.

MY CONFESSION "My Tarnished Reputation"

Appropriately, after witnessing a return to 1940-50s politics...
...we're presenting a tale of 1940s-50s sexual politics!
This torrid tale from Fox's My Confession #8 (1949) was one of the earliest illustration assignments for young Wally Wood, who would quickly become one of the most famous artists in the field due to his work on sci-fi and horror illustrating monsters, aliens, and, yes, beautiful women.
The writer is unknown.
Next week:
We haven't decided yet what it'll be, but we can guarantee that...
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out if You Miss It!

MENACE "Fake"

Remember the old adage "Don't judge a book by it's cover"?
Here's the codicil; "It goes both ways"!
Illustrated by Al Eadeh, this tale from Atlas' Menace #10 (1954) follows the classic trope of golddigger tripped up, not by her own greed, but by the fact her husband (who still loves her) is not even human!
Remember, the target audience for horror (as opposed to romance) comics was 8-14 year old boys, to whom girls were "yukky".
And for whom Lois Lane , the nosy reporter who was always trying to either expose Superman's secret identity or trick the Man of Steel into marrying her, was the typical woman!
Next week:
We haven't decided yet what it'll be, but we can guarantee that...

MARVEL TALES "Old Couple"

Though most horror comics tales (especially ones involving romance) are scary...
...this particular story of love eternal is surprisingly-sweet and poignant.
Illustrated by the versatile Sid Greene, this atypical tale from Atlas' Marvel Tales #132 (1955) is a gentle evocation of "true love".
Sadly, the writer is unknown.
Next week...
Our Annual Halloween presentation of spooky,  sci-fi, and Gothic romance tales concludes!
We haven't decided yet which tale it'll be, but we can guarantee that...

REACH FOR HAPPINESS Episode 2 Part 2

Exiting Gregory's office, Karen ran into another long-unseen friend, Richy Smathers, a spoiled rich kid with a fondness for fast cars and disreagard for anyone in his path.
Richy brought Karen home, where her sister berated her for going to see Gregory.
Now let's look in on Gregory's fiance, Rita...
To be continued, next month...
