I'd have that doctor up on malpractice charges in a hot minute!

First he tells her "Your husband's gonna die within a year, and it's your fault!", then it's "Oh, he's fine, it's a miracle!"

The guy's a quack!

The writer for this tale from Prize's Young Romance #89 (1957) is unknown, and it's just as well!

The nicely-done art is by Lou Cameron (pencils) and Vince Colletta (inks).

OUR LOVE STORY "Model with a Broken Heart"

It's a '70s story with a '40s feel...

...because the scripter was a child of the Swingin' 60s-70s, and the illustrator was one of the greats of the Golden Age.

The story has a weird feel to it, like one of the 1940s-50s tales updated for the 60s-70s.

But I'm assured this never-reprinted tale from Our Love Story #14 (1971) was, in fact, written and illustrated in 1970-71!

Scripter Gary Friedrich began penning comics in the late 1960s, including Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos, the cowboy Ghost Rider, and the Steve Ditko-illustrated Blue Beetle.

But he began his career doing romance comic stories at Charlton!

Later, he would co-create the motorcyclist Ghost Rider and the first Black superheroine, ButterFly!

Tarpe Mills was one of few female writer/artists (let alone female writers or artists) in the Golden Age.

Besides working on a number of established series, she created one of the first superheroines; Miss Fury!

Tarpe retired from comics in the early 1950s, returning in the '70s to do this romance story under the pen-name "JT Mills" (short for her full name, June Tarpe Mills) and a cover for a Miss Fury reprint trade paperback.

YOUNG ROMANCE "It's a Girl!"

After hearing about Todd Akin, it's no wonder that the worst thing a Republican can hear is...

...and that Republican men in 2012 haven't progressed from the mind-set shown in this 58-year-old tale from Young Romance #65 (1954)!

To be fair, women as portrayed in this story aren't much better.

Lois is a doormat ("...we'll keep him happy! Isn't that what a man's womenfolk are for, after all?"), and JD seems rather butch, as if she had to be as manly as the males around her simply to be competent.
And you'll note JD's (gasp) not married!

It's scary that this seems to be the image of America that Republicans want to return to.

Sorry to vent, but after reading about sheer idiocy like Akins' comments, I feel the need to do so or GO MAD!

DARLING LOVE "I Lied for Love"

How many of us could say "I Lied for Love"?

Too damn many, I suspect.

And, how many would admit it freely?

Too few, I suspect...

As you might have guessed, this title was used for numerous stories by different publishers from the 1940s to the 1970s.

This particular one, which has never been reprinted, is from the first issue of Archie Comics' entry into the romance comics genre, Darling Love (1949).

The art looks a lot like Katy Keene artist Bill Woggon or one of the other artists who worked on the character, which makes sense since Archie published Katy Keene as well!

Here's a tale of future love published exactly 40 years ago...

...Nestled none too securely in the grim world of the future, Liana longs for the miracle that will end the pain of her lonely existence!
But, miracles can have dangerous side-effects, as Liana will soon find out!

This tale originally appeared in The Monster Times #14 (July 31, 1972), written and illustrated by Bruce Jones, who went on to do writing and illustration (but rarely both at the same time) for DC and Marvel.

TIPPY TEEN "Wheel of Misfortune"

It's been a while since we ran some "teen humor", so let's look in on Tippy Teen...

...doing Archie-esque things with her Archie-esque cast in an Archie-esque tale from Tippy Teen #14 (1967).

Art by Doug Crane, who was the only artist to sign his art, probably because he was the only Tippy illustrator (besides artist/editor Samm Schwartz) who wasn't moonlighting from Archie Comics...at that point.

After Tower Comics went out of business, Doug worked on DC Comics' teen humor line including Swing with Scooter, Date with Debbie and Binky's Buddies.

From 1989-2005, he was a mainstay of Archie Comics' art staff, working on almost every title they published, even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

The writer is unknown.
