Amorous Education SEARCH FOR LOVE "Atomic Amour!"

With all the current talk about Russkie deceit and deception...
...we forget they were masters of such things during the Cold War!
Since the story begins in high school, we thought we could list it under the subhead "Amorous Education".
As hard as it is to believe, this tale appeared in a romance comic, specifically, ACG's Search for Love #2 (1950).
Similar tales had appeared in crime/espionage titles, but their audience was radically-different from romance series' readers!
Regrettably, both the writer and illustrator(s) are unknown, so we can't blame anybody in particular for their stereotyped attitudes towards intelligent women.

Amorous Education JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "Jet Jaunt"

It's almost springtime...and more importantly, it's almost PROM time!
But, in teen humor comic books (even comics set in the future), things never go smoothly!
OK, maybe it's just as well that we of the real 21st Century still don't have flying cars...
As you might have guessed, Archie artist Dan DeCarlo was the illustrator for this tale from Standard Comics' Jetta of the 21st Century #5 (1952), which was actually her first issue!
(Issues 1-4 were a romance comic called Today's Romance!)

Amorous Education HI-SCHOOL ROMANCE "Three's a Crowd in Love"

Oddly, though this story is subtitled "A True Hi-School Romance"...
...it concerns college students who are friends and/or lovers!
Though the writer and artist(s) are unknown, this story from Harvey's Hi-School Romance #3 (1950) is one of their most popular tales ever!
It was reprinted three times in various romance titles from 1955 to 1958, but hasn't been seen since...until now!
Note that, because Valentine's Day is Monday, we'll be posting then instead of next Wednesday!

Amorous Education TENDER LOVE STORIES "Campus Crusader in Love!"

Good Deeds or Good Loving...
That's the choice Christine has to make when her love of social justice and her love for her long-time friend come into conflict...
Unfortunately, none of the creatives were credited, so the writers and artists are regrettably, unknown.
However, the cover art is clearly inked (and probably penciled) by John Severin.
This cover-featured tale from Skywald's short-lived Tender Love Stories #3 (1971) was the only new story in the 52-page book!
The rest were reprints modified to update the clothing and hairstyles to then-current trends.
It was a common practice on romance titles from the mid-1960s until the genre died out in the mid-1970s.
Unfortunately, the Dreaded Deadline Doom caught up with us, so we decided to do a "re-presentation" rather than miss a week.

Amourous Education CAMPUS ROMANCES "Love was My College Major"

It's time for your lesson in love...
...from a writer who takes the "book" part of "comic book" to the extreme!
Considering letterers have always been among the poorest-paid of the various contributors to comics, I wouldn't be surprised if whoever did this job said "The hell with it! I'd rather dig ditches. It'll be easier!" after finishing the assignment.
The art for this tale from Avon's Campus Romances #2 (1949) by Manny Stallman and John Guinta tries to compete with the text, but some panels look like the illustration was just an afterthought.
The script, by an author whose name is lost in the mists of history, reads like a radio soap opera, with an incredible amount of "internal monologue" by Karen.

Amorous Education CAMPUS LOVES "My Shameless Deception"

Think the catty schemers of The CW and FreeForm are innovative?
...well, such machinations were a common plot element when your parents (or even grandparents) were in class and the school paper was the Internet of it's time!
Ripped from the pages of Quality's Campus Loves #4 (1949), this tale of truth and tattletales doesn't have any credits and even the experts at the Grand Comics Database are stumped as to the identities of the writer and artist!
Interestingly, when it was reprinted only a year or so later in Quality's Love Experiences #12 (1951), there were some weird, almost arbitrary changes made, starting with the title and opening caption...
...and minor changes to backgounds, as seen here, but no other text or art changes censoring women's clothing as seen HERE!
