Business Before Love? YOUNG MARRIAGE "Everything But Love"

It is Said "All's Fair in Love and War"!
It is also said "Business is War"!
So, a logical extrapolation of the two is "All is Fair in Business and Love"!
To answer the obvious question, there was never a sequel to this never-reprinted story of Cupid and cupidity from Fawcett's Young Marriage #1 (1950), created by artist Bob Powell and an unknown scripter...who could have been Powell himself or editor Roy Ald!
Pre-Comics Code tales tended to be more "adult" in their subject matter than the later books which had less-sophisticated stories!
And a surprising number have rather depressing endings...

Romance on the Range COWBOY LOVE "Outlaw Girl"

Yes, there were both CowBOY and CowGIRL romance comics!
Perhaps the publishers hoped to capture both the female and male reading audiences!
This tale from Fawcett's Cowboy Love #2 (1949) plays up the "justice in the Old West" plotline, making the romance aspect decidedly-secondary, which might be just as well, since Amy's falling for a guy she's known for such a short period is totally-unrealistic!
Next Week:
Another "Romance on the Range"!

NEGRO ROMANCE "Too Late for Love"

Boy meets girl...
...girl's best friend marries boy!
Girl falls for new boy, but then best friend and hubby re-enter girl's life and...
Presuming Artie does take her back and they marry, how are they going to get custody of the kid?
I suspect writer Roy Ald didn't really think the problem through in this never-reprinted story from Fawcett's Negro Romance #1(1950)!
The illustrator who hewed closely to the Fawcett "house style" is unknown.
Thanks to Kracalactaka for the scans.

Next week:
We haven't decided yet what it'll be, but we can guarantee that...
You'll Cry Your Eyes Out if You Miss It!
(Oh, you've heard that, eh?)

Love in the Time of Covid-19 SWEETHEARTS "My Last Chance for Love"

...now here's the earlier, longer (and sassier) version, beginning with the second page!
Now we return to the story we re-presented last week...
Why were five pages from this tale from Fawcett's SweetHearts #83(1950) cut from the reprint we showed you last week?
Did the Comics Code Authority (which didn't exist when this story was first published) insist on the alterations?
And, if so...why?
We'll never know the answers!
Next Week...
Another Tale of Disease, Debilitating Conditions and Desire!

LOVE MYSTERY "Death Take All" Conclusion

A funny thing happened between the first and second parts of this story...
...we lost track of Part 2 and ran a story prepped and scheduled months in advance to coincide with Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day!
(You can do that on Blogger.)
Sometimes it's a lifesaver, especially when you're writing and producing numerous blogs as we do.
Not this time...
Now, back to the story...
Sports reporter Don Black becomes romantically-involved with Norma Brisbey, whose father owns Buckeye, the odds-on favorite to win in the $100,000 Gold Cup Horse Race.
But threats to both the owner and Spider, the horse's jockey, and an attempt on Mr Brisbey's life convince Black there's a conspiracy to rig the race.
Returning home from visiting her father in the hospital, Norma sees someone lurking outside the house, and Don goes to investigate...
This tale of love and legal matters from Fawcett's Love Mystery #3 (1950) was illustrated by Bob Powell, an ideal choice since he was expert at both romance and crime tales!
The scripter is unknown.
Fawcett tried things no one else would attempt including this title and Negro Romance, hoping to find untapped markets.
Unfortunately, in both cases, the audience never materialized, and both books were cancelled after only three issues.

LOVE MYSTERY "Death Take All" Part 1

Romance has been combined with many genres in comics...
...like westerns, war...even horror and the supernatural!
But only once did comics combine romance with mystery, in the appropriately-named Love Mystery!
Who's lurking outside?
Be here next week for the thrilling conclusion!
