Halloween HeartBreak MENACE "Fake!"

 Remember the old adage "Don't judge a book by it's cover"?

 Here's the codicil; "It goes both ways"!

Illustrated by Al Eadeh, this tale from Atlas' Menace #10 (1954) follows the classic trope of golddigger tripped up, not by her own greed, but by the fact her husband (who still loves her) is not even human!

Remember, the target audience for horror (as opposed to romance) comics was 8-14 year old boys, to whom girls were "yukky".

And for whom Lois Lane , the nosy reporter who was always trying to either expose Superman's secret identity or trick the Man of Steel into marrying her, was the typical woman!

Advice d'Amour MARY WORTH "Doctor Ward's Secret" Conclusion

 It Has All Lead up to This...

...mysterious rich widow Lisa DeLeon coerced Dr Karen Ward with a huge grant to build and finance a new hospital in order for the surgeon to perform plastic surgery with revolutionary techniques that rendered the middle-aged woman looking decades younger!
Before her operation, a veiled Senora DeLeon met recently-discharged veteran Michael Jones, brother of Dr Ward's nurse.
Michael is embittered because his leg was severely-damaged in combat and he now limps and uses a cane.
Lisa, with the wisdom only living a long life can give you, consoles Mike, who is enthralled by her, and when he actually sees her after the operation, he falls hopelessly in love and proposes!
Lisa, caught up in the emotions of the moment, agrees to marry him.
Now the May-December wedding is being arranged, with the groom unaware he's the "May" part of the proceedings!

Mary Worth knows all these secrets, but has given her word to not reveal any of them to anybody!
But Fate, which unexpectedly-brought Mike and Lisa together, may deliver another surprise!

But before we jump into the heartbreaking finale of this torrid tale, we wanted to show you the cover of this HTF comic...

...Magazine Enterprises' Romantic Picture Novelettes (1946), by an unknown artist, showing a scene not in the story!
Although, to be fair, you could say that's Mike and Lisa on the cover...
Why they chose to not "play up" the extremely-popular Mary Worth character on the cover is a mystery!

And now, the conclusion of our story...

May-December romances with the woman being the older one in the relationship are still extremely-rare, while relationships with the man being the older one are considered far more "normal", even respectable!
The more things change, the more they remain the same!
Note: Though the ending implies there might be a reunion, perhaps even a rekindling of the relationship between Michael and Lisa, it never comes to pass!
